Health And Safety Policy
Cleaner Wimbledon Health and Safety Policy
Cleaner Wimbledon is committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions for all employees, clients, contractors and visitors. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with professional cleaning services in residential and commercial premises. Our aim is to prevent accidents, work-related ill health and damage to property by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
We recognise our duty of care to protect the health, safety and welfare of our workforce and anyone affected by our cleaning activities. We will meet or exceed all applicable health and safety legislation relevant to cleaning operations and will regularly review our working practices to ensure they remain safe, suitable and effective.
Health and safety is an integral part of how Cleaner Wimbledon operates. We will provide appropriate resources, training, supervision and equipment so our cleaners can carry out their duties safely and professionally across all areas we serve.
Responsibilities and Accountability
Ultimate responsibility for health and safety within Cleaner Wimbledon rests with management, who will ensure this policy is implemented, communicated and reviewed. Managers and supervisors are responsible for monitoring day-to-day compliance, carrying out inspections, reporting issues and supporting staff in following safe systems of work.
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. All cleaners must follow training and instructions, use equipment correctly, report hazards and incidents promptly, and cooperate fully with health and safety procedures.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Before undertaking cleaning work, we will assess the risks associated with the tasks, equipment, chemicals and environment. Site-specific considerations will be taken into account, including access routes, client operations, vulnerable occupants and any particular hazards present at the premises.
Where risks are identified, we will put in place appropriate control measures, such as safer work methods, substitution of products, use of personal protective equipment or restrictions on access. Written procedures and method statements will be used where necessary for higher-risk activities, such as work at height or the use of powered equipment.
Use, Handling and Storage of Cleaning Chemicals
Chemical safety is a core element of our cleaning operations. Cleaner Wimbledon will only use cleaning products that are suitable for professional use and supported by safety data sheets. All chemicals will be clearly labelled and stored securely when not in use.
Our cleaners receive training on the correct dilution, application and disposal of each product, as well as the protective equipment required. We avoid unnecessary mixing of products and take care to prevent exposure through skin contact, inhalation or splashing. Ventilation will be considered when using strong products, especially in smaller or enclosed spaces.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be eliminated, Cleaner Wimbledon will provide appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves, aprons, protective footwear, eye protection or masks, depending on the task. Employees are required to wear PPE as instructed and to look after it properly, reporting any defects or damage immediately so it can be repaired or replaced.
PPE is selected based on risk assessments and product information, ensuring it is suitable for the type of cleaning work being carried out and comfortable enough to encourage consistent use.
Safe Use of Equipment
All cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, steam cleaners and extension tools, will be maintained in good working order and used in accordance with manufacturer instructions. Regular checks will be made to identify damage, loose parts or electrical faults.
Only trained staff are permitted to use powered equipment. Cables will be routed sensibly to reduce trip hazards, and equipment will be switched off and unplugged when not in use. Where work at height is required, safe means of access such as approved steps or platforms will be used, and unsuitable methods will be avoided.
Manual Handling and Physical Wellbeing
Cleaning work often involves lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. Cleaner Wimbledon aims to minimise manual handling risks by using trolleys, lighter equipment and safe work methods wherever possible.
Staff are trained in correct manual handling techniques, including how to lift safely, avoid overreaching and organise tasks to reduce repetitive strain. We encourage employees to report any discomfort, pain or injuries at an early stage so that adjustments can be made to their duties or equipment.
Control of Slips, Trips and Falls
Many cleaning tasks involve wet floors, trailing cables and movement of equipment, which can create slip and trip hazards. We will clearly identify wet or recently cleaned areas and, where practical, restrict access until surfaces are dry and safe.
Cleaners are instructed to maintain tidy work areas, keep walkways clear and promptly clean up spillages. Particular care is taken in communal areas, stairs, entrances and locations with high footfall, to protect both our staff and anyone using the premises.
Health, Hygiene and Welfare
Cleaner Wimbledon recognises the importance of personal hygiene and welfare for all staff. Handwashing facilities and suitable cleaning materials will be made available during work, and staff are encouraged to practise good hygiene, especially after handling waste or using cleaning chemicals.
We support staff wellbeing by encouraging regular breaks as appropriate for the work and ensuring that lone working arrangements take account of health and safety considerations.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses, injuries, property damage and dangerous occurrences must be reported to management as soon as reasonably practicable. This allows us to investigate the cause, record findings and take action to prevent recurrence.
Employees are given guidance on what to do in emergencies, including fire, serious injury, chemical spills or other significant incidents. We will cooperate fully with any client emergency procedures and ensure that our work activities do not compromise site safety arrangements.
Training, Communication and Consultation
Cleaner Wimbledon will provide appropriate health and safety training for all employees on induction and as part of ongoing development. Training covers topics such as safe use of chemicals, manual handling, equipment operation, hazard awareness and emergency response.
We actively communicate health and safety information through briefings and updates, and we encourage staff to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in safety discussions. Input from our cleaners, who work directly on client premises, is essential for maintaining effective and practical safety measures.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety policy will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes to legislation, operations, premises or equipment. We will monitor our performance through inspections, incident reports and staff feedback.
Cleaner Wimbledon is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety standards, ensuring that our cleaning services are delivered safely, responsibly and with full regard for the wellbeing of our staff, clients and the wider community.
