Modern Slavery Statement
Cleaner Wimbledon Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the actions Cleaner Wimbledon is taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to conducting our activities ethically, transparently, and in full compliance with applicable laws and standards relating to labour, human rights, and worker protection.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Cleaner Wimbledon operates a clear zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, debt bondage, and all forms of exploitation. We expect the same high standards from everyone we work with, including employees, contractors, suppliers, and partners. Any actual or suspected instance of modern slavery connected to our activities will be treated as a serious breach of our values and may result in termination of relationships and reporting to relevant authorities.
We recognise that cleaning and associated support services can be exposed to modern slavery risks, particularly within complex subcontracting arrangements and low-wage work. We therefore place particular emphasis on fair treatment, appropriate pay, safe working conditions, and the voluntary nature of employment.
Organisational Structure and Supply Chains
Cleaner Wimbledon provides cleaning and related services. Our supply chains include providers of cleaning materials, equipment, uniforms, facilities services, and occasional subcontracted labour. We aim to work with suppliers that share our commitment to ethical conduct and respect for human rights.
We seek to ensure that our relationships are based on transparency and that suppliers understand our expectations in relation to modern slavery and labour standards.
Supplier Standards and Audit Processes
We are progressively integrating modern slavery considerations into our supplier selection, onboarding, and management processes. As part of this, we aim to:
Assess suppliers based on their labour practices, including the use of written employment contracts, prohibition of recruitment fees, and provision of safe working conditions. Where appropriate, suppliers may be required to confirm that they have their own modern slavery policies and procedures in place.
Conduct proportionate audits or reviews of higher-risk suppliers. These may include site visits, document checks, and discussions with management and, where feasible, workers, to evaluate compliance with labour standards and working conditions.
Require corrective action plans where non-compliance is identified. Failure to implement agreed improvements, or evidence of serious labour abuses, may lead to suspension or termination of the business relationship.
Prioritise longer-term partnerships with suppliers that demonstrate a genuine commitment to continuous improvement in labour standards.
Employee Awareness and Responsibilities
All staff are expected to support our efforts to prevent modern slavery. Employees involved in procurement, contract management, and site supervision are particularly encouraged to stay alert to signs of exploitation, such as workers appearing fearful, working excessive hours, or lacking control over their documents or finances.
We seek to build awareness by communicating our zero-tolerance stance and by explaining the types of situations that may indicate risk. Managers are expected to act promptly if concerns are raised and to escalate issues through the appropriate channels.
Reporting Channels and Protection
Cleaner Wimbledon encourages anyone with concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected to our operations or supply chains to speak up. Concerns may be raised internally through management lines or other designated reporting routes. We will treat all reports seriously and handle them sensitively, ensuring that, where possible, information is kept confidential and only shared with those who need to know in order to investigate and respond.
We will not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against any person who raises a concern in good faith, whether they are an employee, contractor, or another stakeholder. Where appropriate, we may cooperate with law enforcement, regulators, and specialist organisations to ensure that victims are protected and supported.
Ongoing Improvement and Annual Review
Cleaner Wimbledon recognises that addressing modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. We are committed to regularly reviewing and strengthening our approach as risks evolve and good practice develops in our sector.
This Modern Slavery Statement will be reviewed at least annually by senior management to assess its effectiveness, reflect organisational changes, and incorporate lessons learned from audits, reports, or incidents. Where necessary, we will update our policies, supplier requirements, and training activities to improve prevention, detection, and response.
This statement has been approved by the leadership of Cleaner Wimbledon, who are responsible for ensuring its implementation and oversight across the organisation.
